What's the deal with RT (Re-tweet)?
To RT or not to RT, that is the question.
And so i would like to ask, because it's not funny when we're fighting over things like RT... religion is enough mess don't u think? For those who are against RT in casual conversation, you're against it because: a. It trashes the public timeline (twitter.com/public_timeline). I use public timeline to find useful RTb. It's junk on my own timeline. I don't like reading other ppl's conversation to ppl i don't know.
c. I think RT is just to be used for useful information
d. I think a bunch of RTs (RT@mrA RT@msB RT@dogX) just look plain ugly
e. I don't want other international tweeples think Indonesians are stupid
f. Other? Mention your own______________ For those who are for RT in casual conversation, you're like it because:
a. I want my followers to see who i'm talking to
b. I want my followers to know what i'm talking about
c. I use BB & it's the easiest reply that still has previous tweet, it's like re: in emails
d. I just like RT ing funny things or information my friends say plus with my comment on it
e. I want the guy i'm replying to know what the subject is
f. Other? Mention your own______________ please answer on the comment link below

Just to be fair, i checked on twitter.com 's FAQ the only thing i can find on RT is: http://twitter.zendesk.com/forums/10711/entries/13920 What does RT, or retweet, mean?
RT is short for retweet, and indicates a re-posting of someone else's tweet. This isn't an official Twitter command or feature, but people add RT somewhere in a tweet to indicate that part of their tweet includes something they're re-posting from another person's tweet, sometimes with a comment of their own.Check out this great article on re-tweeting, written by a fellow Twitter user, @ruhanirabin. and that great article is:
http://www.ruhanirabin.com/the-art-of-re-tweeting-in-twitter/ What is RT or RE-Tweet?
Retweeting is a popular way to share a useful or interesting tweet. When you browse your friends or public tweet stream of information and found something useful, you would most probably like it to share with your contacts. They might not know about it or maybe their contacts doesn’t know about it either. So you copy some ones tweet and append RT along with their name and post it back into your stream for your contacts or the public. -------------------------------- Basicly the writer of the article, Ruhanirabin, thinks the problem of RT is if too many people RT the same tweet it will become ugly and suffocating.. imagine 100 of RT of the same tweet pops up in ur timeline (if you have like a lot of followers). And he suggest using this format :
“This is the message (RT @username1 @username2 via @username3)”
with via identifying the original poster. (but still this will show up 100 times in your timeline and public's if via-ed or RT-ed 100 times)
=========================================================== To my understanding this article is just a suggestion to make your tweets cleaner and looks nicer.
And what i get is, using the "via" format or the "re:" format has no technical benefit over the RT on tweeter users. CMIIW. Now for my own opinion, i have no problem with cleaner & more presentable format, who doesn't like beauty?
But, why is RT so popular and ppl use it in an "ugly" way i think is more connected to what app they're using, and what features those app has.
I use ubertwitter on my BB, and tweetdeck on my mac. Both have the RT feature, and when i'm on the road sometimes the RT is the most efficient and convenient way to share things. No i don't want to cut and paste things when using BB on the road. I don't even want to cut and paste on tweetdeck, to bad they don't have the via command like thwirl.
In my case beauty lost agains efficiency.
So far, reading the official FAQ on twitter plus that non-official article, i think i'm still using my RT within the "good" boundaries:
I RT info, jokes, or even conversation i want my followers to know about.
=========================================================== I wrote this article not to set the rift bigger appart, but to bring understanding to both sides. Let's try to live in peace in twitterverse shall we? :) cheers,
